Alone. Truly alone. In this world it could be considered good. It is easier to hide yourself than to hide an entire herd as well. Hide from the typhoid mary destroying innumerable equines. Mercilessly. No discretion. Safer to remain as a nomad, a wandering soul. Bound to none. Fighting the past. It would not give. Refused to let her discover peace. Kyroya doubted such a luxury could exist a second time. She loved her king. Still loved him. Only him. No more chances at happiness. Love? Not again. Their passion? Unrivaled. All ended in a matter of minutes. He saved her life. Protected her location from the enemy. With his dying breath it was her name that screamed from his bloodied lips.
Then all went black. For both. He moved on, drifted out of this world. She lost her ability to truly be alive. Show emotion. Orbs glassed over. Vacant, and yet strangely deep. Nearly a year had passed. Her enemies presumed her food for the wolves. Good. Death would be better than this. Kyra would be with her love again, forever. Nothing wrong with that. Oh how she missed him. At times it seemed as though the wind carried his scent to her. Impossible, his body has long been buried.
The femme could still hear the sound of his laughter, deep and harmonious. Audits pricked attempting to will the sound now. Azure pools straining to view his pleased smile. Visualizing his rugged, refined and masculine frame. Dark, close to the night sky. No other colors. Just chocolate. Sweet. Delicious. Utterly tempting. A choked mockery of her silk voice, "Verdict." That was it. Nothing more. She never allowed herself to mourn her losses. There had been no time then. Habitual now. Avoidance. Until the nightmare.
"Walk with me?" His brow smooth now, knowing my answer already. "I will walk with you." I look around. A garden. "My fathers garden..?" A light chuckle. "Why of course my love. Where else would I bring you?" Puzzlement. Awareness. This is not a dream. It feels too real. His rich voice reaches my auds, "Kyra? Are you all right?" Such concerned features. Unthinking, I respond. As my vocals leak out, he slowly morphs into the warrior king, bloody and cruel. Not towards myself..but who then? "You are dead. Why can I feel your touch?" Walking on, I notice that there is something different, he is not my lost love. An imposter. The terrain had changed. Rocky now. Before any words could leave my lips he speaks once more. A smile, amusment in his eyes. "Look for me."
She awoke screaming.
It can't be. She knew this. Impossible. Kyroya had watched, as he grew weaker. Her heart freezing over as it happened. Finally he drew air no more and heart? Pure ice. Nothing, no one had managed to melt that ice. Forelegs kicked a piece of shale. Shale? Odd. Orbs glanced around, realiztion struck. The same scene from the nightmare. How? Cranium shook, denying what clearly lay before her. "No." Paralyzed, the fae stared, eyes transfixed on nothing. This could not be happening. Ghosts did not exist.

Ryuk+_+ Silence. Beautiful, unadulturated silence settled over the Swarthy. It was calm, all calm, but leaderless for now. He was elsewhere for the moment, looking for some to bring into the band of the royal land. However, if anything captured his sense, if he had one bad thought, he would immediately return. As he stood in the terrain, he realized there was something strange. Something, someone was inhabiting his royal land. They were there, trespassing. His forelegs raised, he made a cry, then proceeded to race back to his land. He needed to know who or what occupied his terrain without him.
+_+ Twenty foot long lengths at a full gallop. He could have fooled anyone that he was of thoroughbred blood. Although, his blood was not, it was of the Standardbred. A queer breed, mixed with so many to have a large range of sizes and appearances. It was their breed's way. He continued, making his way to the hills, passing the lands of his subordinates as he went.
+_+ Hard hooves made their first steps onto the terrain that he had claimed a while ago. He had slowed to a walk, proceeded into his land with caution. His listeners were pinned showing agression to any who would see him. The steed's nostrils opened wider, taking in the scent of the creature in his lands. What is this? A female? His ears flickered, and wound up facing forward. He was intrigued now. Then, without warning, a shrill scream pierced the silence of the terrain. He faltered for a moment. What was this madness? What is going on here? He returned to his gallop, using her scent as a trail.
+_+ Rise and fall, that was the way of the hills. The terrain's natural smog made the area perfect to move through the terrain. His dark coloring making him contrast against the gray and silver smog. He could sense that he was getting closer and closer. He was closing in. Are there two here? No. I would have caught the scent of another. No. There must be just one, just the femme. But, what could have caused such a shrill cry? His listeners pinned themselves again. He was not happy. Some dark femmes took pride, too much pride in themselves, and he was not in the mood to deal with a female's craziness.
+_+ Halt. A body. Her body. She was there, in front of him. Who is she. His audits flicked forward again, this time taking in her denial. "No? Who do you believe you see? Who do you think is in front of you femmora?" He was truly curious. He could wait for a few moments before he asked what she thought she was doing in his land. His voice dropped an octave, turning gruff but not harsh as it did so. "I implore you to speak quickly. And, as far as questions go, I would also like to know your name and what you are doing here? If you are looking for the king, you have found him."

Vacant orbs. Always. Never changing. Now taking in the form of...Verdict? It can't be. No. The fae felt sure that she still slept. Nightmare and all. His voice...matched the voice in the dream. The garden. No, not that voice. That one belonged to Verdict. This one...rougher in quality, holding a sense of foreboding strength in it. Strange. He looked exactly like her love. A step backward. Dial still swayed back and forth, denying the image imprinted on her mind. The ghost before her. He seemed real enough though. Kyroya took another step in the opposite direction of him. Not sure of what she was seeing.
A reply. Needed. Required of her. After all, he is a king apparently. Sudden intake of breath. A king? Verdict became king through her. Could it be? Did he survive the battle after all? Not allowing herself to hope, her voice came out hesitantly, "No. You cannot be him. In front of me? I see a ghost. The image of someone I lov-- once knew." Never reveal too much about your past. One lesson in a series taught to her by her dam. Dial tilted to the side. Taking his facial features in. Absorbing them. Sketching them beside those of Verdict. So similar.
She was gone. Lost in thought. Comparing the two closely. Trying to find some shred of proof that he is her king. Back from the dead. Or never with them. Never experienced the relief of death. How terrible! To be lying in pain, constant. Refusing to recede, even for a little while. Not knowing if your charge made it out alive, unharmed. Safe forever now. Free. Day by day would have passed until by some miracle he had managed to survive. To move on. Find food, shelter and most importantly, water. He could have done it. But why not seek her out sooner?
Why not greet her with familiarity? Common sense invades now. It cannot be him. His twin? No, he had no siblings. Especially not a twin. Kyra would have known. This is not Verdict. She could not help the surge of attraction she felt though when she saw him. It tore at her. Threatening to break her control. Powerful. Not overwhelming. This femme held her compose. Replied to his inquiries without hesitating this time. As though no inner battle had just transpired. "My name is Kyroya. I am here by accident and I do not seek a king. I seek safe passage though. Will you let me pass through your lands so that I may find a new home?"
Azure pools implored him to consider her request justly. Not dismissive or negative. A yes or no would suffice. If yes, conversation over and she would get out as fast as possible. If he replied with a no? She would go without a fight. She was not a queen in these lands. None here knew of her royal blood. It is better that way. A question for him now. "Could you please tell me where I am?"

+-+ Freeze the atmosphere. Change one season to another. Stun those around you. She seemed to be harmless. A harmless mare. Yet, that only made the king more suspicious of the mare. Was she truly a dark, or was she some filth stalking about his lands. He listened for her answers. Why is she so surprised. He mentally shook off the questions. At least, fear was not rising within him. In odd terrains, he knew now, queer fears would sprout their ugly faces. He would become petrified, terrified of what would come after him. Was it the terror that caused the disease that caused his fear? Or was it his mind playing tricks on him?
+-+ Shivers. From the wintery winds? Or from the strange after world. Something brings chills to my bones. What is with this mare? His eyes narrowed for a moment, searching for more to her. A foal? No. There was no evidence of her being with foal nor was there evidence of a little one beside her. Passage? That is all she wishes? Hmm, and she does not know where she is. My suspicions are only raised. If he had to give a percentage as to how much he suspected her of being a trespasser, it would be around twenty five. At this very moment, he thought of how he could play his cards right. If she does not reason, she will not think, or even dream that I have suspicions...hmm
+-+ Her words startled him. He was real, no ghost. "Indeed. Too bad your mind plays tricks on you. I am real." He wished that she would at least take all of his words as the honest truth. If there was such a thing in the lands of the evil ones. He wanted to take one step toward her, but held back the urge. When it was time to come closer, he would. For now, his fears, his transformation, was not yet complete. In the year he had been in the land he had learned more than when he was not. He was maturing, going from a young stallion to a more mature, aged one. His mind was playing tricks on him just as much as hers was. What if she is really crazy? I may get myself into trouble. As far as things were going, she was still at a crossroad. The mare would need to convince the king she was of his alliance before he would allow for her to proceed. Not only would she need to do that, he would need to know where she was going, for precaution. If any of the other leaders knew of his hide-away, or knew of his honest existence, he was not sure what he would do.
+-+ High suspicion, and with a reason to protect, he went on a slight defensive. He kept his voice low: "Kyroya, you rouse suspicions inside of me. You, I would assume, are of the dark nation, and yet you do not know what land you are in? Either you are new to these lands, or you are a spy from one of the heaven kissers or the unallieged. Both worry me. The latter more than the fore." He did not wish to give too much away. So, he figured he would give away some information. "As of now, you are in the greatest terra in the dark nation, the Swarthy Hills. If you are looking for a place to live, this is one of the best. My subordinates have not shown their faces in quite some time. Unless, you would like to travel to a realm filled with ice, in which the leader, Revan, is there often."
+-+ He moved to the left, using what those who love dressage would call a half pass. It brought him just a fraction closer to her while allowing him to move to the side. "I am not sure you know the magnitude of my position, Kyroya. I am in charge of protecting the dark nation. And I will do so with my life. Before I allow you to pass, I must know for sure you have sworn yourself to the dark nation. Otherwise, you will be forced to stay here. Rules are rules." He allowed a huff of breath to pass through him.

This supposed king held a reserve behind his stare. Unsure. Uncertain. Wary. Wariness is something she could easily relate to. Something this fae understood. Most definitely understood. After being on the run for such a long time, one learns to be constantly on guard, waiting. Watching. His hesitancy amused her though no such emotion crossed her features. It seemed as though he was trying to figure out a puzzle. Attempting to unlock a clue. A clue to what? She had no idea. Perhaps he was not quite right mentally. Strange eyes. Not the same as her beloveds. A different color. He is not Verdict. She kept reassuring herself.
Orbs flicker to his form. Vibrations running down him briefly. Ah yes, winter. Blessed winter. It comes quickly now. The first snow should be upon this land soon. A home became top priority. His eyes danced along her physique, searching? What could he possibly be looking for? A soft snort. Barely audible. Displeasure. Kyroya does belong to the world of the vain. Looks are important, however personality...that is what captures her. Draws her in and keeps her. Truth. Not pretending to be what one is not. Verdict knew that. He became king. Her king.
A scowl. Brief, but obvious. Chords struck, "I know you are real. Perhaps you should have listened more carefully. I said that you were the image of someone I once knew. Of course I did not mean that you were a ghost." No time to waste on a stag who does not even listen fully to the answer given to his own questions. Pathetic. None of her thoughts portrayed on her delicately carved features. That would be dangerous. If he really were a king. Which she doubted. What proof could he provide of that? Anyone can claim kingship. He looked the part. Would he act it? Perhaps a test? No. Don't push too fast. Safe passage is needed.
His speech floated into her audits. A small curvature of the lips. A soft reply. "You are right. I am not from these lands. I have traveled for nearly a year. My former home is not remotely close to here." A pause. A light? Neutral? Disgraceful. Queen of her own dark terras. Dark being the key word. Not that she would mention that. The past must remained buried. Lost forever. "You're assumption of my alliance is indeed correct. I was born a dark and have remained one." Enough said. No details. Not ever. Her history did not concern him in any way. Kyra would not speak of it. At the mention of Revan, muscles tightened, undertones of fury flooded her face. "I have met Revan." No other information was given. Unnecessary.
Azure pools observed his movements. Carefully. Interesting. The same. Jaw still set in anger, she worked on reigning in the coming storm. He could not know of Revan's obsession with her. His crazed desire to be with her. Calmer now, listening to his speech. Absorbing his words. Similar to her love's. "I very well know the magnitude of your position. Do not think of me as a fool, dear king." Not her king. A step closer. "I have already stated my alignment. What more do you want?" She closed the gap between them. "If I am not a dark, why would you keep me here? Alive? Dearest, surely you would kill me." Slight sarcasm echoed in her words. Kyroya did not care. She had no reason to. He did not rule her. Not yet. She swore no allegiance to him. The dark race? Yes. Him? No. Not yet at least. Curiosity. A weakness. She smiled. Not quite a pleasant smile. "Tell me, what is your name, love?" Pistons carried her gracefully back to her original position. Orbs never leaving his.

## Go. Roam. Be free and wander about the country. How his words stayed inside of his mind. Should he speak again, only to make a fool of himself once more? There was never a time for winning against mares. He had nothing more to say to her, nothing more. Nor did he wish for her to linger. The only reason he was here now was to check up on his land. As there was not a threat, she could move on without hinderance, and he could go off to more, greater things. The steed squinted a moment, only doing it to make an awkward face.
## Bored was what he was. There was nothing more to talk about. He could learn what he wanted about her from other sources. His dark fascade turned to the side, looked away from her. A beauty, yet not in his mind. She was a subject, a subject of the dark nation. The nation he swore to protect, the nation he lived to die for. There was nothing more to think about. There was nothing more. Nothing more. His dial turned, resuming his prior position. Words moved inside and out of his listeners, his mind digesting them, yet his maw stayed closed. A tinge of fear crept over him. A fear for her.
## Affection was not a word in Ryuk's dictionary. All of his 'affections' were directed to his nation as a whole. However, he had yet to learn what he was really capable of. For now, he was plagued with his changing nature. He was tainted by fear, responsibility, and much more than he ever knew he could handle. It all crashed upon him like a wave, consuming him and tossing him around as if he was nothing. It was that way with waves. He sighed, her speech complete. Would he answer her question? Possibly, he could also act like a smart ass and make rude remarks. No. His position was greater than that.
## There it was again! That feeling! That fear! Why did it follow him? What was haunting his soul? There is something dreadfully wrong. I need to attend to it. This conversation needs to end soon... Part of him did not really wish for it to end. This was the first equine to speak to him in quite some time. "Very well. I have no reason to suspect you. There is nothing more. I need nor desire anymore information." He realized, her comments of 'dearest' and 'love' instilled the fear inside of him. So, that was what bothered him. His listeners pinned. "You act as if you know what to do with prisoners. I assume, once again, you must have ruled at some time. Now, my business with my prisoners is my own. It is foolish to kill such delicate flesh. It is much more interesting when one takes their prisoner and tortures them, leaving them inches from death. All prisoners, all trespassers know their ultimate fate. I decide what happens to them. And, d**n it, I would rather see the looks on their pained faces as they SUFFER."
## Rage was a powerful thing. There seemed to be some demon, some complete monster hiding within his blood. Other comments, other questions which were uttered from the vix's velvet lips were forgotten by the stallion. His bod shook with anger, anger thinking of the light nation and the neutral nation. They will have their day... For now, all of the horses hid, fearing for their lives all because of the plague. However, Ryuk was willing to hold true to the legends and lore. Darks were against lights and the neutrals were only in the way. His position was clear. Another huff, and he relaxed just a little, his listeners flicked forward. "I will not be quick to judge if you are a fool or not, Kyroya. Perhaps, you are in the presence of one now." He turned on his haunches, facing away from her and started making his way toward one of the hills. He had walked only two paces, when he partially turned his head back to her." I am Ryuk. I have no love, and I am no one's love or dearest."

He squinted. Loosening her hold on her laughter. Not enough to expose any emotion of course. That would never do. The face he made reminded her of a rebellious colt. Despite the fact that he has probably seen more years than she. A spark in her orb. Brief. Smothered. No, he does not seem the entertaining type. Too stiff. How did he become a king? There should be a fun side. A balance. Not always walking and speaking like there is something shoved up one's a**. A sigh. Hardly audible. Simply a filler. Silence is a blessing and a curse.
This is not right. Wasting time. Conversing with him. Disgust at the thought of him. No more time. Time to go. Darkness comes quickly when winter is here. Time to face the nightmares. The memories. The demons. The dark. After watching what happened to Verdict and being attacked in the underbrush at night fear held her back. Kept her close, no deep sleep. Restful sleep? A flickering dream. An hour. All she is given before the nightmares plague her slumber. Perhaps tonight it will be different. After all, he looks exactly like him. Just the thought of his form could chase it all away. Potentially. She would never ask him to stay with her. Thinking about him would have to work.
The memories had become hazy over time. Seeing him brought everything back. Every detail of Verdict. In full color. It annoyed her. Hence, the sarcasm. He looked too similar. If only he had survived. A low, mournful sigh. Nostrils flare slightly, had he heard? No. He could not have. Why would he care anyway? Cold. Distant. Unfeeling from the sound of it. Not worth talking to. Sleep though it evades her is more desirable at the moment. Swaying. Her figure subtly changing position before swinging back. Food and sleep-deprived. Time to go.
His vocals reached her waiting ears. Good. He did not press her for information. None would be given. Kyroya waited to speak. Not knowing what to say. Ruled? Yes. A tremor passed through her. Mind the tongue. His features changed. Auds pinned back. Angry. Interesting. Dial tilted to the side, observing the change. No fear crept into her. Curiosity, however, did. "You assume too quickly. It is quite obvious to any dark what should be done with prisoners. I have never ruled." Those words sent a shard of ice through her heart. She ignored it. "If I had ruled, I would not be quite as cruel as you seem to be. It does not matter though, you are king here. In this disease ravaged land. What caused such casualties?" New to the land still, the femme had not been told or heard any rumors.
An involuntary step backward. His frame trembled. Shaking. Looking as though he was about to transform into a monster. Mythical monster. His anger concerned her. Perhaps he had separate personalities? There had been one like that in her old home. Realization. Fear. Orbs widened, another step backward. Then, he calmed himself. Relaxed visibly. She released the breath she did not know she had been holding. He spoke. His words carried her closer, removing the gap between them. Even as he looked back to say his name. He did not seem to be all right. It bothered her. Cautiously, she came to his side, dial keeping even with his shoulder. A sign of respect. Softly, her vocals floated away from her lips. "And what makes you a fool, Ryuk?" Ryuk. Interesting name. A question left her before she could stop it. Not knowing if it would enrage him further. "How did you become king?" Kyroya moved away, making more space between their figures. More time to avoid any attack. Thoughts of the schizophrenia plagued stallion in her herd cautioned her now. Hoping that he is not carrying that awful disease of the mind.

Ryukxx| Turn away, leave sanity behind and turn to the loneliness of your pride. Fall to the ground, and let the subordinates rise above and snatch the crown. Right from your head, right from your heart. If there was one who could guard the midnight nation with his whole heart, it was Ryuk. Although, he was not quite sure of it yet. Every wrong step he made, only one wrong move would destroy him forever. He shivered at the thought. He was not this crazed before. He did not lust for blood or wrath. What had become of him? His dial was turned now, away from Kyroya, preventing her from seeing the liquid that welled in his eyes. She, without knowing it, was calling something deep inside of him. It came to him in whispers, barely audible, and he did not know what to do with it. His right foreleg lifted, his position shifted forward, but something stopped him. He could not walk away, he could not leave.
Ryukxx| Come on. I want to leave. To be alone to go insane. Well, I do not care if I go insane, that is just my rearendumption. He had thought to himself. His listeners were just so that he could hear her. One remained forward, the other back just enough to listen. So many questions. And yet, my rearendumption that she ruled was incorrect. Oh well, we all have to be wrong at some point. His barrel would rise and fall with his breaths. His muscles would ripple beneath his pelt once and a while out of inactivity. Standing for long periods of time became almost intolerable to him. He would have to move at some point or risk driving himself to the brink of falling asleep. The steed had been on the move for a bit. Hiding from the rest of the world, claiming this land only to be alone for a bit. Yet, that was it. He was finished with being alone, wasn't he? His bod began to sway back and forth, gently.
Ryukxx| Perhaps she was right about the other alliances. He had been so concerned about keeping his nation from harm, he had forgotten the others were not monsters. They were equines, like himself, trying to live, love, and protect just as he did. "Very well. You may be correct, Kyroya. I may be wrong to use torture for all prisoners." He left a gray area, just to get away with torturing souls who have committed crimes worthy of harsh judgment. It was now he stopped swaying. His specks were dried, but he did not turn around to face her again, which meant he needed to speak up a bit more just for her to hear him. "A plague was released upon this land. I do not know all of the details, nor do I care for them. It was...in a word...catastrophic. Horses died in utter pain. There was so much suffering. Now, we are all just trying to protect ourselves, and simply survive." Another feeling tugged inside of him. However, this time, it did not provoke tears or anger. He turned around to face her again, slowly. Both of his listeners faced forward. He truly meant no harm.
Ryukxx| So much time alone, so much pain. Was it this way for all equines living in the area? It seemed as if time would stand still for a bit, and Ryuk refused to fight it. So, what now? Would he continue to answer questions? He still had one to go. This one, he was not sure how to answer. "The land was empty, and I was the first to claim it. Next thing I knew, the title of King was beside my name." He had never asked for this! The steed barely had any experience of his own to go by. It was this that was attempting to drive him to the brink. He looked away. The hills were a great place to live, especially if he ever needed to commit suicide. "It has been a roller coaster ride. I'm trying to be a King -- to rule with justice and power. I want all to remember me for something. But, every time I try, every single time, I wind up screwing up." If he tried to be brave, or strong, his fear would get the best of him. If he wanted to punish those one way, his own kin believed it to be too harsh. "It is as if I do not know what the darks stand for any more." And it was in this moment, Ryuk lowered his body to the ground. His maw touched the loam beneath him. He was no King. Who was he trying to fool. Good thing this mare had come along. Perhaps she would bring him back. "You may not even think this, but I was not this way before . . .I was not this way before I shut everyone out."
