The Court of the Gilded King

Good morrow, Traveler! Here, come, sit and take respite from the night’s chill with a warm mug of cider. I can’t say that you have come to the City at an opportune time. And I doubt you’ll be leaving any time soon.

Gildiat City is cut off from the world.

King Petrus of Narnon has decreed that the city gates be closed and magically sealed. Why, you ask? The king says that the blight on the kingdom’s crops is actually a magical pestilence, sent by the mages of our neighboring kingdom, Silvertath. I can’t attest to the verity of this claim, but anyhow, who would dare question the word of the king?

On a happier note, the Crown Prince has come of age, and soon the festivities will begin all across the city! I’m old enough to remember when King Petrus came of age, and oh the celebration was magnificent! You’ve surely heard how the king dotes upon his children, and I’m sure he’ll have spared no expense for this occasion.

Oh, Traveler, before you go, I feel I must tell you of one more thing. Please, lean in, for this is not something one should gab about in idle conversation. Of late there have been rumors circulating of a group called the Gatekeepers. From what I’ve heard, they want to open the gates, whether the king allows it or not.

Tread carefully, Traveler, for this city has its darker side underneath the gilded towers, and I hope you never have occasion to meet the dark.
